Council News respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and which third parties receive it.
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive and store:
This information is used to personalize your experience, including saved stories and reading history. You do not need an account to read stories.
If you are signed in, we track which stories you read to power features like "new stories since your last visit" and your reading profile. This data is tied to your account.
Collected automatically through PostHog.
Collected by our analytics and crash reporting services (PostHog and Sentry) to ensure compatibility and improve performance.
Collected through Sentry. When the app crashes, we receive error logs and device state to fix bugs.
If you use our iOS app and enable push notifications, your device token is stored by Expo to deliver daily news alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
Council News uses five AI services to select and summarize news stories. Each day, publicly available news data from RSS feeds (article titles, descriptions, and source URLs) is sent to these services:
No user personal data is sent to these AI services. They only process publicly available news content.
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
To stop all data collection, sign out and clear your browser data, or delete the iOS app from your device.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of Council News after changes constitutes acceptance.
